But how long does it take most readers of the code to do that analysis and
conclude only one arrangement makes sense? Isn't it better to just add the
parentheses to disambiguate it so the meaning is obvious immediately? Which is
what the warning suggests.

The warning is working exactly as designed, if you don't like it disable the
warning.
