Going through the C Standards Committee is a very long, bureaucratic, and fraught process – as I'm sure you're aware. Is there any reason you wouldn't consider adding this as an extension to GCC, with a simultaneous proposal to the C Standards Committee? Of course, you've added numerous non-standard features to the C compiler for GCC in the past, so why not this one? If you need more specific convincing, I'm happy to provide it!
