There are multiple bogus symbols in files (stray \33, etc):
libgfortran/kinds.h
libgfortran/kinds.inc
libgfortran/fpu-target.inc
libgfortran/c99_protos.inc
which lead to multiple compilation errors.
The gcc source code was downloaded from
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/misc/gcc/releases/gcc-5.2.0/gcc-5.2.0.tar.bz2
