I've measured the serial vs. the cilk+ performance and it looks quite sad:
fib_serial:
...
fib (40) = 102334155
./a.out 1.82s user 0.00s system 99% cpu 1.822 total
fib with cilk+:
( % gcc -O3 -g -DHAVE_IO=1 -lcilkrts -ldl -fcilkplus fib.c)
...
fib (40) = 102334155
./a.out 29.14s user 0.06s system 392% cpu 7.432 total
