But this has a maintained status, which gives people a false sense of security. You build all the libraries, then the application does not work. It rather could be nice to take a look what had been wrong in the old version, and I don't know how to do it (as you mentioned the patch is large). Cygwin has 4.5 as a test version, installing it takes a click. But still, it is a test version. Nightly build of gfortran did not work for me (it failed to compile LAPACK if I remember correctly).
