The patch in comment 4 only seems to only be applicable/applyable to the
gcc-4.6 branch.
I tried applying the patch from comment 3 to gcc-4.4 and that seems to be
enough to fix the issue demonstrated with the test program. What would I
potentially miss/break if I just ignore the patch from comment 4 with
gcc-4.4/4.5?
