I've found that the Sun Studio compiler behaves the same with its -mt option and asked the maintainers about it: http://mail.opensolaris.org/pipermail/tools-compilers/2010-June/001156.html The relevance of that behavior has gone with the unified process model in Solaris 10, and it's causing me trouble when implementing TLS support for Solaris 8 and 9, so I'm going to fix this for 4.6.0, together with that TLS patch.
