This exploratory patch passes all regression tests. I have also successfully compiled and run the polyhedron benchmarks. I have not tested higher order arrays to see if there is a compile time improvement yet. Feel free to test. What I hope to eventually do is move the expansion functions higher up the calling chain away from gfc_is_constant_expr.
