I'm thinking that in the configure tests, for the auto case, we have a special check for broken named locale support in early 2.2.x releases (suggested by Jakub, by the way, if I remember correctly), in case, it would not be difficult to add one more check in that place... -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=40511
