FWIW, I have no problems with gcc 4.4 revision 144236 on Linux/ia32 with 1GB RAM/2GB swap as well as Linux/Intel64 with 4GB RAM/2GB swap. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=39118
