I've just tried it on gcc 4.3.2 for arm-eabi, and can't reproduce it with
either 5.cc or 6.cc any more. -O0 or -O2 didn't make a difference either.

While the principle sort-of seems sound that you shouldn't push the accuracy of
the C run-time too much, I guess with no obvious exceptions to exclude, or to
guide as to what _is_ acceptable accuracy, it's not worth pursuing this. I'm
not sure what has actually happened to improve the accuracy that much, so I do
slightly wonder where the fix was.

Thanks for looking into it anyway, time to close it in that case!
