Huh????? Also the linker is not part of GCC anyways. It comes from the binutils project. You can see that the gcc driver is just calling ld by adding -v. Also this is how linkers have worked with archives for 20+ years now on UNIX like systems. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=36579
