I fully understand that morally, it's libtool's fault for releasing a program that didn't correctly divine that gcc 4.3 would change the linker it uses compared to versions since at least 3.3. Shame on them. Nonetheless, this change does happen to break any package that shipped using any version of libtool up to the present. This adds up to rather a lot of free software.
