It can't have been a particularly recent change, since it already failed with GNU C++ version 4.1.0 20050323 (experimental) (sh-elf) . It worked with GNU C++ version 4.1.0 20050314 (experimental) (sh-elf) . -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=27574
