I have this problem where programs spontaneously disappear on me without any error message and the process is killed, but I really have no clue what to look for. Also, I seem to get error messages whenever I try to compile anything from source, not just gaim. If you could give me any pointers about how to check for memory issues or hardware issues, let me know.
