We should probably issue a warning or error here, or
else blank out the rest of the line (g77 and ifort do so).
This is a corner case of an extension, so I don't think this
merits anything more than "enhancement".

write (line, '(A$)') 'asdf'
print *,line
end
$ gfortran dollar.f
$ ./a.out
asdf567890ABCDEFGHIJ
$ g77 dollar.f
