I have tested it myself with gcc 4.0.2 and it worked. I'm now told this isn't a problem on gcc 4.x.. so I'm no longer sure if I should report it as a valid bug. I have had other people test this on gcc 3.x with both failure and success. I think it depends how gcc is installed.
