Here is another small test case. Output on another free VM looks like this: jamvm test.shutdownhook.Test waiting ... Shutting down! Exception in thread "Thread-3" java.lang.Error at test.shutdownhook.Test$3.run (Test.java:26) at java.lang.Thread.run (Thread.java:674) Exception in thread "Thread-2" java.lang.NullPointerException at test.shutdownhook.Test$2.run (Test.java:19) at java.lang.Thread.run (Thread.java:674) On gcj the shutdown hooks are not called when stopping it via ctrl-c. -- http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=7532
