Between 24th - 26th September 1999 "The Mixed Choir Cantate and The Municipality of Maasmechelen" will organize the 5th Flanders' International Choir Contest. 25 Choirs from 17 Nations will be performing at that weekend. Orfeon will be competing in the Chamber Choirs Category which is at 25th September at 10.00 am. ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS will also be giving a concert in Cultureel Centrum of Maasmechelen at 20.00 hours, 25th of September. The entrance fee is 500 BEF(~13 USD) and all the money collected will be transferred to the funds that will be used to build houses for the victims of the earthquake disaster in Turkey. The main purpose of ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS is to perform distinguished examples of world choir music literature belonging to different period and regions. Another important purpose of ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS is to popularize polyphonic choir music to audiences in different regions of Turkey. Moreover, ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS includes the works of Turkish composers to its international concert programs so as to popularize Turkish music literature in the world. The repertoire of ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS is in many different languages and consists of works from Middle Age, Renaissance, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods and works of Turkish Five and the following generation of Turkish composers. Early period of European Religious music, pre-romantic to romantic German choir music, modern French and Hungarian choir music and the works of 20th century Turkish composers who have used motifs of Turkish folkloric music are the sources of ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS's repertoire. ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS has given its first concert in French Culture Institute for the celebration of World Music Day on 18th of June 1994 with conductor İbrahim Yazıcı. Between May 1995 - February 1999 Yiğit Aydın was the conductor. Since May 1999 ORFEON is conducted by Mrs. Elnara Kerimova. ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS has participated in International Chorus Festivals in Miskolc - Hungary, Harghita - Romania, Ankara - Turkey as well as the national ones, made recordings for State Radio, recorded music for the drama "Yusuf and Menofis" by Nazım Hikmet, gave many concerts and been awarded many times until today. In June 1998 ORFEON CHAMBER CHORUS participated in one of the world's most important choral event, the 18th Bela Bartok International Choir Contest at Debrecen, Hungary and awarded a special prize from the Ministry of Culture of Hungary for his authentic performance of Hungarian compositions. In July 1999 at 17th Teesside International Eisteddfod in England, ORFEON won the first prize at "Choral Arrangements of Folkloric Songs Category". Conductor Elnara Kerimova Elnara Kerimova was born at Baku in 1962. She studied Choir Conducting at Asaf Zeynalli Music College. After she graduated from Uzeyir Hacibeyov State Conservatory she to conduct the State Polyphonic Choir of Azerbaijan. She participated to various festivals and take stage at many concerts in different countries as well as the Ankara Music Festival in 1991. She conducts TRT (Turkish Radio and Television) Ankara Radio Polyphonic Choir since 1992. Mrs. Kerimova has participated at festivals and gave many concerts around Turkey with this choir. The choir has many recordings which are periodically broadcasted at TRT TV and Radios. Mrs.Elnara Kerimova conducts Orfeon Chamber Chorus since May 1999 and the chorus won the first prize in"Choral Arrangements of Folklorik Songs Category" at 17th Teesside International Eisteddfod.
