UNCTAD/UN Staff College Workshop
International Investment and Developing Countries beyond 2000
1-3 December 1997
Turin, Italy
Organizers: The workshop has been jointly designed by the UN Staff College
and UNCTAD's Division on Investment, Technology ad Enterprise Development
which serves as the focal point, within the UN Secretariat, for matters
related to foreign direct investment and transnational corporations.
Content:
The workshop will focus on:
* prospects for international investment over the next ten years: home
countries, host countries and sectors;
* transnational corporations' strategies; policy options in the management
of FDI by host developing economies: enabling environment and incentives;
* national and international strategies for developing countries and
regions bypassed by FDI;
* strategies for the international community with respect to an
international investment environment conducive to development, including
the desirability of multilateral frameworks for investment and competition
policy.
Participants: Senior staff from the UN system and other international and
regional organizations dealing with international investment; senior
managers of transnational corporations; policy-makers from developing,
transition and developed economies, including heads of investment promotion
agencies; representatives of trade unions and NGOs; and leading academics.
Venue: International Training Centre of the ILO, Turin, Italy
Cost of attendance: US$ 1,800 covering tuition fees, full board and lodging
