We fear that another lost battle for the dockers will have repercussions in ports everywhere encouraging other employers to lower dockers wages and working conditions. On the other hand a victory to the Liverpool dockers will raise new hopes that the trade union movement can live up to today's challenge of globalisation and organise the workers movement internationally. We therefore sincerely hope that the congress will come up with a programme of support to the Liverpool dockers, a programme so strong that we soon will see them walk back through those gates.
