>From Australia's point of view, the report itself is an
accurate statement of what our Deputy Prime Minister
said. Australia's response to citizen action relating to
the MAI was quite heartening, and is contained in a
lengthy report of a Joint Standing Committee on Treaties,
readable in Acrobat from
http://www.aph.gov.au/house/committe/jsct/reports/report14/rept14.pdf
However, you will note that Mr Fischer refers to future
action at WTO, and there are, As Mike Gurstein has already
reported to this list and others, plans in place to move the MAI
to the WTO starting December 1998.
Vigilance is still required. Nevertheless, Australian politicians
have responded with genuine concern.
