Neither is intrinsically better than the other, I think. (Although
personally mailing lists integrate much more easily into my daily
workflow.) Some communities are heavily forum based, with either no or
very quiet mailing lists.

Freevo isn't one of them, at least not at the moment. So users need to
go where the help is, and right now that's the freevo-users mailing
list.

For users who just want to get in to ask a question and probably not
care about discussions beyond that, I can see why forums would be
easier.

Both forums and mailing lists have the upfront inconvenience of
subscribing (or registering), but with a mailing list, after you've got
your question answered (or ignored, as the case may be on some lists),
you need to take that extra bit of action to turn off the email tap.
With mailing lists, you also need to setup appropriate filters for sane
organization.

So I'm certainly sympathetic to the class of user who just wants to ask
a quick question and be done with it.

Cheers,
Jason.
