Hi there,

Thanks very much for the reply.

Before mailing the list I saw those notes and tried the suggestion,
but unfortunately no luck.

mail5:~# >>> cat /proc/devices | grep ipmi
mail5:~# >>> modprobe ipmi_devintf
mail5:~# >>> cat /proc/devices | grep ipmi
252 ipmidev
mail5:~# >>> /bin/mknod /dev/ipmi0 c 252 0
mail5:~# >>> ls -l /dev/ipmi0 crw-r--r-- 1 root root 252, 0 Jan 15 22:09 /dev/ipmi0
mail5:~# >>> modprobe ipmi_si
FATAL: Error inserting ipmi_si
(/lib/modules/2.6.32-5-686/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ipmi_si.ko): No such device

... if you're using the FreeIPMI tools (i.e. ipmi-sensors or
ipmi-sel), you normally don't need to load the IPMI kernel driver.
FreeIPMI's tools implement a driver in userspace that can work as long
as you are root.

mail5:~# >>> time ipmi-sensors
Caching SDR repository information:
/root/.freeipmi/sdr-cache/sdr-cache-mail5.localhost
ipmi_sdr_cache_create: internal IPMI error

real 0m11.730s
user 0m0.220s
sys 0m0.156s

:(

You may also find mailing the openipmi users list more helpful than this
list.

Thanks for the pointer, I'll give it a try.
