Hi! I am also using freeIPA at home. The primary server is running on dual core mini computer with 8GB RAM connected to LAN. To save energy, it is scheduled to be off between 23:00 and 06:00, apart from that it is constantly online. The installation was done using native DNF, no containers. I don't use provided DNS, all my machines have static IPs and FQDNs on the internal network, so it wasn't worth the hassle to setup. Also, I am not sure how it would behave in combination with piHole.
The clients are rPi 4 and two laptops. The only tip I have is to use enough RAM, IPA itself requires about 4GBs, I am running also some services like Home Assistant, Jellyfin and music services, so 8GB is a must. Any CPU should be able to handle reasonable load. Have fun with your home setup!
