This sounds like there is at least some usage of python to interact with IPA. I unfortunately do not know python and I don't really want to learn it. We likely have python developers on staff that could do what I need...if they have time for it. For now, I'll just have to use ansible and train the helpdesk people on how to run playbooks when they deploy Linux workstations. Oooo boy.... Thanks for the input.
