Per the recent discussions on moving some packages to different groups, I have
begun doing that.
Created a new group directory called TOOLS or “Basic Tools” for programs that
are needed by the release but not part of BASE. For the foreseeable future,
these Basic Tools will always be installed with either a BASE or FULL install
of FreeDOS.
I've moved V8Power Tools, Callver and AMB Reader into that group.
Maybe move CWSDPMI?
Maybe PKGTOOLS which is used by some batch files in FDHELPER to show
information on installed packages.
I’ve moved FDNPKG into the Networking group.
But, I think CALLVER should probably be moved to BASE. It replicates the
functionality of MS-DOS to set a specific DOS version for executing programs.
However, there are a couple packages that are in BASE at present that should
probably be moved to the TOOLS group.
AMBHELP - FreeDOS Help in AMB file format. Requires AMBREAD.
FDHELPER - This contains several batch files used by the system to do things
like: Determine which help system is installed for help. Initialize
the CD-ROM. Display Welcome to FreeDOS. And a couple other things.
HTMLHELP - I don’t think it really qualifies as replicating MS-DOS
functionality.
SAMCFG - Sample configuration files.
Also, I will be making a new “Disk Utilities” (aka disk) group and moving some
of the programs from Utilities into it.
AEFDISK
DOSSFCK
EDICT
FINDDISK
OSPIMG
RAREAD
RAWRITE
TESTDISK
WDE
WHICHFAT
XFDISK
ZEROFILL
Maybe these file system utilities?
SEARCH
STAMP
WCD
XDEL
ZDIR
Any additional thoughts?
:-)
