FDI is done to the point that Jim requested. When the packages for version 1.2
are ready, it could be deployed mostly as-is for the normal basic/standard
install of the next release. FDI build process currently creates a floppy image
for install. It can be used from a “Boot Floppy” or simply added to an install
disc that contains the packages.

With all that in mind, these are some of my thoughts on the timeline and
to-do’s toward a FreeDOS 1.2 release.

Determine packaging type. Probably zip based. Binaries and sources in single or
separate packages?

Determine the install disc layout. Where packages go and etc. The old layout
could be used, but I think it could be cleaned up quite a bit. (Other post
coming on possible disc layout)

Assemble packages for base and full. (If I get around to adding vchkbox
utility, then I will add a package group selection in advanced mode. i.e.
Networking, etc)

Decide what additional utilities will be present on the “Boot Floppy” and other
Installation Media. Off the top of my head, (not including drivers for CD/DVD
drives and such) these are required for the installer to function: v8, command
<http://command.com/>, fdisk, format, sys, xcopy, deltree, zip, unzip and fc.
It may be practical to create a full live version of FreeDOS on the other
Installation Media formats.

Create the bootable install media. There is the “Boot Floppy”. But, it will
also need a Boot CD and maybe a USB image.

Alpha testing.

Incorporate some more advanced options if/when the additional V8Power Tools
become available.

Beta Testing.

Release.
