Ok. I give up. No more 16 bit talk and FreeDOS in the same
discussion every again. I promise.
Which is just plain wrong.
MS/Dos was ALWAYS first for the 8086/8088 architecture with 1MB
(640Kb)memory, Any improvement to those limits was kludged/bolted on. If
we now say "lets forget all that old stuff 'cause its too difficult to
develop/test/maintain' we're no longer talking about DOS, but a
completely new and different beastie.
I, for one, would also point out that there are many museums and
individuals with VERY old machines, who would need FreeDos if ever their
MS/IBM floppies go to Bit heaven. ( IBM 5550 at a friends place that
still works !)
For these old machines we must also ALWAYS provide a floppy only
distribution.
Just my take on this discussion. I agree with a lot that has been said
before, but please developers respect and support the original DOS specs
first before jumping your project into the 21st century architecture.
