There are some minor advantages (and even disadvantages) to running
natively. There is no perfect solution. Some things run worse under
emulation, but others actually run better. So you may honestly want to
try both, depending on what you're trying to run.

One guy did something complicated and weird like that, but I think it
was for his Mac server (to flash the BIOS). Dunno, never tried.

But anyways, VirtualBox should have no problem. I've installed and
used FreeDOS there without any (major) problems. Here's an online
