I got too excited and posted a message. I dug further into the readmes and 
found out there is a commercial version of VMiX. there is no web site that I 
could find. the project seems to get updated about once every 5-10 years.
 
it runs on top of DOS. I believe it was the commercial version of VMiX (itself 
protected mode) that works with protected mode programs now, and it 

the cost used to be something like $35. 


it uses i586 code, but requires real mode to start.


I could not receive posts because yahoo mail is blocking mailing lists. I 
wanted to mail this correction/oops.


I remember reading that GPL licensed stuff can be charged for, but I am unsure 
the full pricing & licensing model of this program.
