I've had my share of "dang! too slow again!" with VMWare... ;)
For #2: I'm not sure about the UI in VM Workstation 8, as I'm just using
the Player at present, but I think the top menu has a pin at the left.
Click on it to make it vanish into the window border (unless you hover
across that area, just like in Windows). Is that what you're looking for?
