If you really like a challenge I've got a bootdisk available that deliberately cuts BIOS int13 access to all physical drives [ http://www.reactos.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=7374 ]. Possibly the UIDE code written by Jack R Ellis could also serve as inspiration. No idea about block devices versus ASPI versus installable filesystems (cdex, smb-clients etc).
