I still suggest to extract the translation from your binary... Kernel and FreeCOM command.com downloads are here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5109 has the old stable version, and the new one is on www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/1.0/pkgs/ commands and commandx zip :-). There are also 2036-stable kernels and 2037-testing kernels in pkgs/ but maybe with unexpected filenames ;-). > Sorry, my quation was misleading. I know about svn (I am starting to use > it). My quaetion was about it being a new kernel version or not. Will > you compile a new binary soon? (or is there a binary available) Uhhmmm... Well I have planned to contribute some patches, but it looks as if I have less time than wanted. So for now, Bart has added some patches to the CVS/SVN, and his/CVS/SVN sources are therefore the newest kernel you can get. The one on www.coli.uni-saarland.de/~eric/stuff/soft/by-others/ is a bit older. I can also publish my list of PLANNED patches - maybe somebody else has the time to write them :-). Most are relatively small and hopefully reasonably easy to write. > BTW, would it take too much setup time > if I want to compile my own kernel? Not really. Especially if you have OpenWatcom, for which the kernel is currently optimized. I often compiled with Turbo C 2.01 in the past, too. You will also need a normal DOS system, preferrably FreeDOS with FreeCOM, and NASM and UPX but not much else to compile the kernel. You have to edit some config.b file and rename it to batch, not much else needed. You should install your compiler into short- named directories like c:/tc/ or c:/watcom/ to make sure that all command lines are short enough.
