well...i'm not exactly an expert in the subject but i've noticed that freepascal suports nasm output...and nasm can generate 16bit code...not sure if it is 286 real or protected mode code, altough it seems to be real mode (i've seen people writing bootloaders with nasm)

doesn't this fits the needs of a real mode modern compiler?!!?!?!?
