Maybe a DOS box and an emulator is a different kind of area. In a DOS
box, you will access the RTC of the host. A VM emulates the RTC which is
under full control of the OS in the VM.

What about programs using CPU ticks for time functions ?

I'm not an expert for details about this in deep. I only have my
experience with different emulators, as I'm using them privatly and at
my work.
