Good day, all: OK, by recopying the original partition table to the USB stick AND using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, I have managed to install FreeDOS on that USB stick again and have it get confusted about the partition. This could be a bug in the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool, but FreeDOS is getting quite confused.
The HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool has no problem installing MSDOS on the stick and it runs fine with MSDOS. This time, a DIR C: is showing files from a totally different partition...of course, I am running on a different computer now. The interesting boot parameters are: ... Build 2035w-UNSTABLE, Feb 13 2006 C: HD1, Pri[ 1], CHS= 0-5-9, start=0MB, size=62MB D: HD2, PRI[ 3], CHS= 1919-0-1, start=15053MB, size = 478MB WARNING: Partition Ext:1 FS 0B has CHS=1980-1-1, not 1023-254-63 WARNING: Partition Ext:1 FS 0B has CHS=4850-254-63, not 1023-254-63 WARNING: Partition Ext:1 is not LBA Please run fdisk to correct this - using LBA to access partition start 1980-1-1, end=4850-254-63 E: HD2, Ext[ 1], CHS=1980-1-1, start=15531MB, size = 22520MB a VOL C: shows the label for what should be E:, my shared DATA partition. A DIR C: shows the files from E:, my shared data partition. The stick boots to C:. DIR D: and DIR E: give "Error reading from drive D (or E): DOS area: unknown command given to driver." The DIR E: also gives : IO error: cylinder > 1023 Could this be because both computers have one (or two) hard drives that contain FAT32 partitions? It is almost like the Ext[ 1] information from the hard drive is overwriting the information from the stick. I don't have a computer that doesn't have DOS installed beside WindowsXP (i.e. a FAT partition or two or three)! :-) Thanks.
