Hi Mark,

It recognizes the USB stick as C:. However, a DIR C: shows no files
and any attempt to copy a file to the stick works but corrupts it. A "FORMAT
C:"
appears to work but then Windows considers the USB stick to be of type
"RAW".

Surprisingly, I've succeed to make the USB boot stick under WinXP with
HP's tool (found HP SP27213 USB format tool). Just point it to the
FreeDOS systems files location, it'll create the bootable FreeDOS on
the USB stick (seems the formatter can did some tricks while others
can't).

You can try this, if it's not working, do try the latest cvs-Kernel

(in Jeremy's server) and Command.com!

Rgds,

Hi Johnson:

Thanks. I know about that utility. It seems to have problems booting
on some computers and I was hoping, just as ISOLINUX seems to be
more reliable than floppy emulation mode on CD's that SYSLINUX
would be on USB sticks. It takes only a few minutes under WindowsXP
to do a "syslinux d:", copy a disk image, and create a syslinux.cfg
file.

OK, I used the development kernel and command.com and that utility.
It complained that the files were not FAT32 compatible. I let it
reformat the USB stick to FAT.

Left the minimal configuration. Saw an additional information item
at the top

FreeDOS FAT Kernel

Did not get the WARNING: line about CHS settings being wrong.

Got the same thing on C:

C: HD1, Pri[ 1], CHS= 0-1-1, start= 0MB, size= 64MB

And, a "dir c:" excuted but showed no files...

Well, MS-DOS works...sigh! Hopefully, this is part of the reason that
getting USB sticks to boot under FreeDOS isn't trivial yet. In
today's environment, USB stick support is essential for FreeDOS.

Mark
