Hi, DOSEmu just has built-in LFNs for redirector drives.
I only use redirected drives (my C: is ~/dosemu/freedos), but LFN does not seam to be active.
If you use diskimage drives or real drives, you have to help DOS by loading the DOSLFN resident tool, though. I think that is all you have to know to get started :-).
Should I use it in redirecto drives too?
But remember that most DOS programs just ignore LFNs!
I want it more in 2 programs: NDN (Necromancer's Dos Navigator) and unzip. NDN does not detect that LFN are available.
FreeCOM has, in the newest version, the DIR /LFN option,
That helps :) it allows to distinguish numbered SFN from each other.
but in general, you better use something like BASH for DOS from delorie.com if you want to do real work with LFNs.
Easyer to use strait bash or Linux commands...
About the path limitation: This is embedded deep in kernel data structures, and bypassing it would void compatibility.
Compatibility with what? MS-DOS can access it.
But I think the limitations are weaker for network drives and in context of LFN usage.
The problem I reported was in SFN, which had more than 64 chars.
