Hi, the SVGA installer CAN use even monochrome text mode. The point is that it requires a 386 plus 387 :-(. And no, there is no automatic check for that at boot time, the only check is that you just cannot boot from CD-ROM on pre-386 anyway.
Some 486sx (no floating point stuff) can boot from CD-ROM, at least when using SBM, and this is where things break.
