Hi, great to have yet another happy FreeDOS user :-).
The CD-ROM is only meant for installing FreeDOS, not really for USING it
directly from the CD. There should be, however, a pre-installed copy of
most tools in the ODIN directory there, so you can still use many things
without having to install to harddisk.

Latest FreeDOS distribution (Beta9 Service Release 1) has a usable FreeDOS on the cdrom,
in directory \FREEDOS\SETUP\ODIN (which replaces the BIN directory that was on Beta9)

My only disappointment with FreeDOS is that the
LiveCD's version of FreeDOS is very limited and
lacks many commands ...

It's an installation cdrom, and you can use it as LiveCD now, if you want.
Just as with all live-cd's, there are limitations.

Yet another problem is in the htmlhelp: The hhstdrd package contains
an "errata" page, and Johnson has started to fix some of this. As
you are using the help a lot, maybe you would be interested in doing
a few updates and fixes yourself, and share them with Johnson (by
mail) or us (by putting them on your own homepage, please do not
send attachments to this mailing list). Thanks!

I put Johnson's HTML pages on the cdrom, but not yet in the HHSTNDRD.ZIP page, as I don't know if it's a regular ZIP file or not.
(the decompression engine is more limited, so no idea what it does, and what it doesn't, support)

PS: Long ago, I started a THREE disk distro called Brezel, but it
never got really released. Feel free to help. The first disk is
the main one with lots of tools, the second contains a zip with all
the extra docs which did not fit on the first, and the third contains
a few bigger tools and some file which are needed to change the
language of the distro, e.g. between English and German.

A basic FreeDOS install (bootdisk + BASE executable files) is now also 3 disks.
However, these days it's very hard to find any floppy disks lying around. I'm always searching for one :(
