I switch back to M$-DOS HIMEM+EMM386 it works! Then maybe the driver
ask for memory but fail to get from FD-EMM386 (or HIMEM involved?)

can you tell about your test setup? I guess:
static: *MSDOS kernel (io.sys/msdos.sys) *MS command.com *SB-Live! driver(s)
variable: MS HIMEM vs FD HIMEM MS EMM386 vs FD EMM386
did you only exchange the EMM386? -ms kernel -ms command.com -sb-live driver -ms himem -tried both ms emm386 (succes), FD emm386 (failure).
approving the FD-EMM386 under an all-MS environment is step #1, and then getting the sound driver to work under FreeDOS is step2
wish I still had that card..and the DOS drivers. I remember asking Creative about them, as they were not distributed publicly :(
