Hi, is FDPM still alive or did it get replaced by the
GUI and text mode installers which were used in beta 9.4 and 9.5?

asks for package management in the installer, and I think at
least the GUI installer can be described as having such a
feature (although it is not fully used in beta 9.4 / 9.5 imho).

A bit of history for those who may not be familiar with FDPM:

I am the original author of the FreeDOS Install Program (although I'd be very surprised if there's any of my original code left ... mine was always a simple installer.) Anyway, I had a plan to add features to the installer. Version 4 of the installer was to switch from .zip files to "package" files, similar to the .rpm or .deb files used in Linux.

I didn't have time to write a package manager library, but someone else wrote it for me. FDPM (http://fdpm.sourceforge.net/ - FreeDOS Package Manager) by Andy Peeters was to be the new underlying library for the FreeDOS installer.

Andy started his work in early- to mid-2000, but by late 2000, Andy's schoolwork was starting to take up most of his time. He no longer could work on FDPM, so I tried to pick it up. Andy's work was a good start, but needed a lot of additional work and cleanup. Working on FDPM and the FreeDOS installer _and_ the FreeDOS.org web site _and_ the various FreeDOS utilities I maintained at the time was a _little_ too much for me, and I stopped working on FDPM for a while. (Eventually, I handed off the role of maintainer for the FreeDOS installer.) The .zip package format seemed to work well, and no one "missed" the FDPM package management system.

In January 2003, Natalia Portillo, Wolf Bergenheim, and Eric Auer agreed to become the new maintainers for FDPM. A note was placed on the web page to that effect, and project ownership was transferred to them.

I haven't heard anything about FDPM since then.

So yes Eric. I think it's safe to assume FDPM has stalled, and the project may be dead (a nice idea, but never implemented and never missed.) But since you're one of the FDPM project owners, I guess it's up to you to declare FDPM officially dead. :-)

Talking about old bugs (bug 12 is from 1999), does anybody have Quicken and can tell us [...]

Eric, _please_ don't include multiple topics in one email. It makes it harder to follow the thread of conversations, if one email thread covers up to 3 different topics.
