Hi, thanks for changing to a shorter subject! > LG> I'd divide *only* SRC into project subdirectories. BIN, INF, HLP, MAN and > LG> NLS better be common for *all* projects, as they usually contain only a > LG> single file per project (with some exceptions).
Not really true, and not really a problem! HELP and BIN already *are* only one directory which is shared by all projects. The "INF" (APPINFO?) already is ONE directory with ONE .lsm file per project which is shared, too. NLS all share ONE directory, too: > (a) all in one ZIP file by language (i.e. all the EN, ES, DE, FR,...) so > that you install the ones you want (easier to implement in Install, but > messy with the catalog files versions and such). > (b) with the file that is being distributed. > post-install routine that removes all the files except those that I'll > be using (e.g., imagine I want to keep EN and ES but not DE or FR, etc.). I am against removing files without asking first. The FreeDOS beta9rc4 installer (or was it rc3?) would simply DEPRIVE me of the ability to use other keyboard layouts than the one used during install, and you will get similar problems if you do the same with NLS files. I think (a) and (b) should be combined: Packages should contain their own NLS files but it should be possible to install "language packs" like "all-es.zip" which would contain many *.es for many packages as an upgrade later. > >FDOS\FONT\*.cpi ... (and \fdos\man\pg.man ...) NOT useful. There are only very FEW files like *.cpi, fdisk.ini, pg.man ... and I see NO problem in storing them in the directory which contains the binary (or alternatively a subdirectory of it, but no need to define a "standard" about how that subdirectory should be called for each package). > DOC\ > gpl2 - GNU General Public License file This should not be part of any package. Packages should ONLY contain files in the DOC\(package name)\ directories. ... Eric. ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net is sponsored by: Speed Start Your Linux Apps Now.
