Imo freecol is far from dead, but i have to agree with the anonymous poster that on the surface it may LOOK dead. Maybe a news item (possibly linking to a forum topic that should be kept updated) about blockers for the next release would help ? Compiling a trunk version in the same way a release is made and making that available for download regularly (say once a month) might also help .
