I just wanted to throw a "me too" in here... I recently changed my motherboard, and my GPS18 didn't work plugged into the onboard COM port. I installed the cable from the mobo for COM2, and that works fine. I assumed at the time that COM1 was dead - this thread makes me think I should investigate more...
