If you want an easy way to blank a system, try dban (Darik's Boot and
Nuke) -- it's a bootable CD which can overwrite disks multiple times and
ultimately zero them out.  For your purposes, you don't need the
high-security wiping -- just choose the menu option to simply zero the
disk.
