You're right. Actually in ezjail I modify make.conf to read

WRKDIRPREFIX=           /var/ports
DISTDIR=                /var/ports/distfiles
PACKAGES=               /var/ports/packages
INDEXDIR=               /var/ports


But I was told that /var is not the correct place, at least for
WRKDIRPREFIX.
