When I try to build libX11 or libSM I find similar error messages about an
old version of automake and I haven't been able to make it use a newer one.

What happens if you pkg_delete automate 1.10 before starting the build?
Does it pick up a newer version of automake, or does it re-install automake
1.10?

I've done it serveral times but hadn't today so I double checked and the portmaster confirmation follows:

===>>> The following actions will be taken if you choose to proceed:
        Install security/gnome-keyring
        Upgrade gconf2-2.28.0_2 to gconf2-2.28.1
        Upgrade gtk-2.18.7_1 to gtk-2.20.1
        Upgrade libX11-1.2.1_1,1 to libX11-1.3.3,1
        Install devel/automake110
        Upgrade libXi-1.2.1,1 to libXi-1.3,1
        Upgrade libXinerama-1.0.3,1 to libXinerama-1.1,1
        Install security/libgnome-keyring
        Upgrade libtasn1-2.4 to libtasn1-2.6

Same results,

Thanks for the suggestion.
