The thing is that just happened recently with an upgrade on TrueOS, but running an earlier boot environment from two weeks back and VirtualBox works fine. I believe that I also was able to run VirtualBox from the new boot environment, from the old. Maybe, I've jumped onto a "similar but different" bug.
